Noh

Noh
by Jacob Drake

Did you know I wrote that one for you?
Did you know that every bit was true?
Born from the way I felt that lovely summer night
Written into finely woven clues

Memories now froze for all of time
Etched forever deep into my mind
Born from the way you looked in glowing fire's light
Grace and beauty, never to be mine

Crimson sun above me when I wake
You left for me, insisted that I take
Given the day you first came into my sight
Will always shine down on me when I ache

Went away so very long ago
Off into a place I do not know
Gone so far away, you follow that which feels right
And now I must learn to let you go

Do you know I wrote this one for you?
Do you know that every bit is true?
Born from the way I've tired of this hidden inner fight
Another dumb poem will just have to do

The Dance of Creativity

It's come to my attention over the past few days that creativity controls you, not the other way around.

I've been sitting here with my trusty ol' iBook trying to force my brain into screenwriting mode. I have a lot of the groundwork laid for this script. I love the idea and think the finished product could be amazing. I've been playing with this story in various forms for a long time and I'm really eager to deliver this baby. There are just a few patches that need smoothed and a few gaps that need filled.

So, I sit here trying to get it going, get the story to flow from my fingers. I start typing and what comes out?

Poems.

I've written three poems this week so far. I'm not complaining, I really like two of them and the third one's not bad, I'm just saying creativity doesn't always cooperate. But hey, as long as it's giving me something, I'm happy.

Poem

Revelation
by Jacob Drake

Exposed my heart, exposed my soul
Told you things you didn't know
Hidden away inside so long
Hidden but remaining strong
Drawn to you since first we met
You dried my eyes when they were wet
I was hiding from the world outside
A beautiful stranger sat by my side
Always there when my sky's dark
To light my way with your smile's spark
Now you know, though far away
The things I've been afraid to say
Lonely times won't always be
But when they are, please think of me

Poem, Anyone?

Esty
by Jacob Drake

Her face alight with the candle’s glow
She stares into the flame below
The windows to one’s soul are found in their eyes
Raven colored lashes, hers are hidden behind
Fire’s shadow leaps back and forth like a blackened tide
It jitters around like the butterflies I’m feeling inside
Her windows raise up and gaze deep into mine
Lady of light, swimming in shadow, suspended in time
Searching my being, reading my soul, her stare never sways
I try to be steady, but my courage wanes as I look away
I am broken and beaten as she embraces me alone
Away from the world in somewhere only we know
The glow disappears and we’re left without light
A coy smile appears as she walks into the night
Away with this woman, a little piece of me goes
I remain haunted by the face in the candle’s glow

A Little Poem

Cruel Decision
by Jacob Drake

Black and white, night and day
Left or right? Don’t know the way
One’s a dream, one is real
Both make me live, both make me feel
Can’t have both, maybe none
A choice awaits fore this is done
Soul is torn, mind’s at war
Heart’s at risk, can stand much more
Cruel decision, cruel to choose
If I should win, I’ll also lose
Guide my choice and help me see
Help me find what’s meant to be

Short and Sweet

So, as promised, here's the rundown on the short film.
First off, let me say it's surprisingly difficult to squeeze a whole story into just a few minutes, but I think I found a nice compromise. I ended up writing a short story around a poem I wrote a couple months ago. Funny thing is, in doing so I found myself liking this little poem a lot more. I originally saw it as pretty plain and cheesy (just how I like my pizzas, incidentally,) but as I wrote the story around it, I was shocked to see it worked on more layers than imagined, hopefully you guys will agree.
So to give you guys a taste without totally spoiling the film, I figure I'll share the poem itself. Go easy on me.

The Robin's Song
by Jacob Drake

Spring came in with a sound
Of a robin singing in a tree

It came in swift upon the wind
And made the air alive to me

It came to town along the ground
And made it shimmer with dew

Grey turned blue and brown turned green
As the world was born anew

A royal blue jacket and a walk to school
As the spring sun warmed my face

The snow was gone from winter long
And budding blossoms took its place

Spring came in with a sound
Of a robin singing in a tree

The robin's song's been gone too long
Please spring, come back to me
